Can heat pumps actually work at 6,000 ft elevation in Wrightwood winter?
Yes, but ONLY cold-climate variable-speed models rated for sub-zero operation (Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat, Daikin Aurora, Carrier Infinity). Standard heat pumps will fail. Dual-fuel (heat pump + propane backup) is also a popular Wrightwood setup.
Do I need AC in Wrightwood?
Most Wrightwood homes operate fine with a mini-split or window AC for the few hottest weeks per year. Full central AC is overkill for the climate. We can quote either approach.
Do you handle propane systems in Wrightwood?

Does Wrightwood's 6,000 ft elevation change how a furnace is sized?
More than anywhere else we serve. At 6,000 ft, the National Fuel Gas Code derate runs about 16%, meaning a furnace rated 100,000 BTU at sea level effectively delivers closer to 84,000 BTU up here because the thin alpine air starves the burners of oxygen. Get this wrong and the furnace cannot hold temperature on a snowy night. We use altitude-correct sizing on every Wrightwood install: the manufacturer high-altitude conversion (orifice and gas-pressure changes) plus a Manual J load calc figured at altitude. See

How much does HVAC service cost in Wrightwood?
Standard service rates apply. Travel time is 60 minutes vs. 30 minutes for in-Hesperia service so emergency calls may have a slightly longer wait window. AC repair: $150-$850. Furnace repair (propane): $150-$650. New install pricing per service page.
What about snow on my outdoor unit?
We mount Wrightwood outdoor units at least 12 inches above grade with snow shields to prevent drift accumulation. Defrost cycle verified at commissioning. Annual fall maintenance includes snow-prep check.
